Stop the Unfair Building Tax (www.sub-tax.com) is a coalition of large and small construction companies, trade bodies and other professional advisers, opposed to Government proposals to change the tax regime for self employment in the UK construction sector.
The Government is proposing to catch-all legislation for a problem that doesn’t really exist.
The new regime will introduce additional costs and red-tape for the construction industry, reduce the pay and living standards of hundreds of thousands of workers, incentivise blackmarket activity and actually increase the costs of central Government administration. These proposals are set to strangle the recovery of the UK construction sector.
The Treasury conducted a consultation exercise over the Summer 2009. But this exercise simply asked how best the measures that they had already agreed could be implemented. They did not ask whether the proposals themselves made sense.
Our common goal is convince the Government to fundamentally rethink these proposals. Now, more than ever, the UK construction industry needs a regulatory and fiscal framework that encourages and supports entrepreneurial activity and encourages fresh investment.
